Emma E. Weyforthstudied piano and music theory at Peabody Conservatory and earned her master’s degree in music from Columbia University. She came to Towson in 1925 and served as the the director of the Glee Clubfrom 1928 until her retirement in 1962. In that time, the Glee Club would grow to be the largest it had been in the school’s history both in size and in renown.The Glee Club conducted many events, not only at Towson, but outside the school as well.The group was particularly active during the Second World War at solider encampments and hospitals.
