Ella Ricker was a member of the Maryland State Normal School Class of 1883 before becoming its history teacher in 1892.

As the history teacher at the Maryland State Normal School, and later the State Teachers College at Towson, Lena C. Van Bibber was responsible for aqcuiring a collection of three Mesopotamian clay tablets, dating from circa 2,400-2100 BC, which are now held in Albert S. Cook Library's Special Collections.

In addition to teaching, John McCleary coached tennis at Towson for a number of years. He was inducted into the Towson State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992 and the State of Maryland Swimming Hall of Fame in 1993.
