T owson State University Tiger Tracks Published exclusively for Tiger Club members by the News and Publications Services SPECIAL FOOTBALL EDITION November 22, 1976 Our TSU varsity football team moved a step closer to the NCAA Division III national championship by upsetting nationally ranked C.W. Post, 14-10, in the quarter-finals last Saturday in Greenvale, Long Island. Trailing 3-0 with 11:46 remaining in the first quarter, the Tigers gradually began to move the ball offensively and late in the second period struck for a touchdown. Senior All -America quarterback Dan Dullea took it in from a yard out to cap a seven-play, 63-yard drive. Randy Bi el ski kicked the extra point and the Tigers led 7-3 with just 34 seconds remaining before halftime. The Pioneers took the opening kickoff of the second half and marched 80 yards in 14 plays to take a 10-7 advantage. Sophomore quarterback Bob Perry scored on a quarterback keeper from the TSU six yard line and the conversion put Post in front by three. But the famed Towson defense came through again as Biel ski recovered a Pioneer fumble (one of four lost by Post) at their 23-yard line. Dullea hit Mike Bennett on a 21-yard completion, and senior tailback Mike Maloney moved it in from there. Bielski's kick gave Towson the 14-10 lead with 10:59 and the Tiger ' D ' halted Post the rest of the way. Mike Maloney led all rushers with 54 yards. Safety Paul White was one of the defen¬ sive heroes, intercepting two enemy passes and making 12 tackles. His second interception came in the game's final minute when Post was driving and had the ball at the Towson 40. On a fourth and two situation, the Pioneer pass was picked off by White at the Tiger 10 yard line to ice the victory. TIGERS HOST ST. General park¬ ing will be available in the lots off Osier Drive. Post-Game Party: There WILL be a cash bar, beef and beer post-game party irmediately following Saturday's game for all. REMINDER: Our varsity basketball squad faces the British Team Fiat this Saturday night in the Towson Center at 8 p.m. It is a pre-season tune up game and an excellent chance to see the Tigers in action against top quality opposition.
