TIGERS SPLIT FOUR, SEEK WIN STREAK
Our men's varsity lacrosse team continues to play the "win one, lose one" game and
now stands at 3-4 on the season going into this week's action. The Tigers began the
stretch with a 23-13 decision over Kutztown State on April 6. Towson had trouble getting
untracked against the scrappy Golden Bears, and needed four goals within a 2k minute
stretch to break away. Junior attackman Paul Mullen began the onslaught on an unassisted,
extra-man tally with 13:40 remaining in the opening half to give the Tigers a 5-3 bulge.
He took a Tom Wagner feed 24 seconds later for a 6-3 Towson advantage and a pair of goals
from Doug McKenzie and Andy Paris made it 8-3. The Tigers were never in trouble there¬
after. Paris continued to lead the scoring with five goals and three assists, while
Mullen had four tallies, Wagner had two goals and a pair of assists, and fast-improving
attackman Jules Siskind had one goal and four feeds. Goalies Paul Russo and Ron Anderson
were tough for the Tigers, making 11 and six saves, respectively, and consistently
thwarting Kutztown attempted rallies.
On April 9 Towson traveled to Geneva, New York to meet the NCAA College Division de¬
fending champion Hobart Statesmen. Towson found out very soon why Hobart was more than
a threat to win that title again in '77. The Statesmen broke open a fairly close 6-3
Towson one quarter deficit with five second period goals to lead the Tigers 11-4 at half¬
time. Hobart outscored Towson 10-5 in the second half to emerge with a 21-9 triumph. At-
tackmen Terry Corcoran and John Hayes paced the Statesmen with six goals apiece, and middie
Steve Pryzbyl-ski added three goals and four assists. For Towson, Mullen had four tallies,
and five others added singles. Paris, Wagner, and Tom Kidd each had a pair of assists.
Russo also turned back 16 enemy shots. Last Wednesday the Tigers put another notch into
the win column with a 17-12 triumph over hapless University of Delaware. The Blue Hens,
who entered the game with an 0-4 record, held an 11-10 advantage over the Tigers with
one quarter remaining, but Towson struck for seven unanswered goals for a 17-11 lead.
A late Delaware goal made the final count 17-12. The attack again provided the punch
for the Tigers, as Paris had four goals and two assists, Siskind was two and four, and
Mullen was four and three. The fourth quarter was probably one of the best if not the
best periods the Tigers have played all season and four of them together would produce
an awesome Towson lacrosse machine.
Saturday the Tigers ran into another University Division powerhouse in Washington
and Lee and dropped a 13-7 decision. Towson led 2-0 at one point but could not stop
the talented Generals. After a 3-3 first quarter the Tigers were once again done in by
the second, and trailed 9-4 at the half. W&L outscored Towson 4-1 in the third stanza
to put the contest out of reach at 13-5 although we did hold the Generals scoreless in the
final period. Mullen had three goals, and Kidd, Danny Nolan, Chris Ciletti, and Warren
Como added singles. Russo had another excellent game in the goal with 20 saves. Paris
is still our leading scorer with 21 tallies and nine assists for 30 points. Mullen has
21 and five for 26 pts., Kidd is seven and eight for 15, Siskind three and 11 for 14,
and Tom Wagner has six and six for 12. Other top qoal getters are Steve Schadbach (3),
Dennis Feeley (3), Nolan (4), and Doug McKenzie (3). The Tigers now have the opportunity
to put some wins on the board, facing Loyola College Tuesday at Evergreen at 3 p.m. , host-
