May 18, 1951 College Day Set 1 for May 24 Taking a day off for relaxation before examinations, the Student Body of Towson wkill go to Tol-chester Beach via the S. S. Bear Mountain next Thursday, for their annual College Day trip. Tickets for the trip are 75c. Amusements will be opened at Tol-chester and hot dogs, hamburgers, and soft drinks wil lbe sold. Bath-ing and bath house facilities will be provided free of charge. Transportation will be provided for those wre request it upon pur-chasing tickets. Special buses will leave the school at nine o'clock sharp; the boat will leave from Pier 5, Pratt street, at ten o'clock. Transportation back to the school will also be provided for those who request it upon purchase of tickets. Those entitled to free tickets for their wives, children, or husbands must ask for them, when buying their own tickets. Husband and wife teams attending school here will be required to buy individual tickets. Amusements to be open at Tol-chester will be the pretzel, the carousel, the little trains, and prob-ably the whip and the bumper. Hot dogs and soft drinks will also be on sale. The boat trip will last two or more hours each way, and three hours time will be allowed to be spent at Tolchester Beach. The boat leaves at ten and returns to Balti-more at five o'clock. Lunches will not be served in the cafeteria. Lunches will be prepared by the cafeteria stall for Dorm stu-dents. Day students are expected to bring their own. Outsiders will be allowed to go on the trip, but are not. being so-licited. Tickets for them will cost 75c. APO To Auction Lost Articles 'Lost and found articles will be auctioned off next Friday, at 12 noon, outside the north entrance to the Administration Building. All unclaimed articles will be numbered and exhibited in the dis-play case on the main floor of the Administration Building during the week of May 21 through May 25. Articles may be claimed up until the auction. People finding it impossible to be present at the auction and who want to bid may present a sealed bid with a 10% deposit to a mem-ber of the Alpha Phi Omega on ' duty at the Lost and Found desk in the registrar's office before the auction. The auctioneer will repre-sent the people who present sealed bids. Accident Fund According to Mr. Karl J. Moser, Chairman of the Student Accident Fund, $750.00 has been appropriated for the use of pay-ing the doctor bills of injured students. Any student who has been injured while participating in an STC activity on or off the campus is requested to hand in his bill by June 1, 1951 to the committee. Pres. Hawkins Directing At College Day '50 Grey May Day Sunny Success by Jackie Wagner While grey skies were overhead, and the band struck up ""Pomp And Circumstance"" members and friends of STC were ready for the elabor-ate celebration of May Day, last Saturday. Pastel Gowns Pastel gowns were worn ground, kinder- School to the in time by the Season Ends with ""Little Foxes"" As their last production of the season, the Glen Players will pre-sent ""The Little Foxes,"" a melo-drama teeming with feeling about a Southern family that was living at the turn of the century. The play reveals their lust for power and money, (-Nen to the point where they would destroy themselves. The play will open in the State Teachers College auditorium on Thursday, May 24 and will run May 25 and 26. Maria Fenton will play the part of Regina Giddens, with Betty Lou Schaeffer as Alexandra Giddens and Francis Barnette as Horace Giddens. Dolores Owings will portray Birdie Hubbard; Paul Arend, Leo Hubbard; Mel Schaef-fer, Ben Hubbard; and Ralph Pier-santi will play the part of Oscar Hubbard. Mr. Marshall will be played by John Zvonar, Addie by Cora Clark, and Cal by Joe Win-ters. Little Foxes was first presented on Broadway with Tallulah Bank-head. Later a movie was made of it starring Bette Davis. Miss Davis won one of the Academy Awards as a result of her acting in this picture. Working backstage will be Tom Jones. The cast is a combination of the old and the new members of the Glen Players. Mr. Paul, the Di-rector, stated in an interview that ""this is one of the most able casts of any of the plays we've done. It should prove a good opportunity for good dramtic playing."" attendants and the Maid of Honor. Sally Weld and Rose Marie Davis wore blue; Reland Sanchez and Carlyn Schaeffer were gowned in pink; while Millie Rhoads and Betty Ann Sturgis made their appearance in green. Yellow was worn by Hazel Davis and Doris Solomon, and orchid by Ann Wallace and Betty Jane Hollo-way. All the girls carried American Beauty Roses. Mary Fiery, Maid of Honor, wore a gown of aqua net and lace. She carried Talisman Roses. Klepper Crowned I Queen of the May, Marjorie Klep-per, wore white nylon net and lace and carried white roses. She was proceeded by Jeff Weaver, son of Mr. J. Fred Weaver, who was the crown bearer. Adviser of the Class of '51, Mr. Weaver crowned Miss Klepper with the words, ""1 crown you, Marjorie Klepper, Queen of the May."" After the coronation, the Glee Club sang two selections: Dances And Tumbling ! The May Pole winding and several other dances were done by the girls' physical education classes. Dancing by the children of Lida Lee Tall School added more merri-ment for the May Day on-lookers. I Clowns Nancy Sandell, Mary Gallagher, Caroline Sutherland and Jackie Jackson, who replaced Bar-bara Hancock when she broke her collar bone while practicing tumbl-ing, performed before the queen's court. Paul Whitehurst, Joe Winters, Bob McGinnis, Tom Foster, Alan Meyers, and Bill Henneman performed a tumbling act that was well re-ceived by the spectators. The Saint George skit, which was prepared by John Zvonar, included Paul Arend as the mighty Saint George, Fred Ritter, the dragon, and Patty Matthews as the wee princess. ' .Kip Chappel was the master of ceremonies for the day. To close the annual May Day festivities, the senior class presented the Spring Carousel which featured Braydon Ridenour's music. A member of the senior class, Pen-ny Dittalio, deserves much credit for her behind the scenes work. Stevens Elected Vice-President; Remaining Officers Decided Yesterday's election saw the vice-presidency of the Student Govern-ment Asociation go to Bob Stevens. Bob was the candidate who in-vited everyone to RSVP after his primary speech in which he prom-ised honest, conscientious work for the student body and ocoperation with those whom elected. Bob amassed 190 votes to the 164 of his opponent, Alex Vlanges. Tower Light The editorship of the Tower Light went to Joan Migliarini. Joan has been the Editor of the newspaper for the past semester, since the resignation of Paul D. Carre. Her opponent was Jane Shapiro. Leona Martin will serve as the Managing Editor, having been elect-ed over Lorraine Mattox. Both of these girls will be juniors next year and have worked in the journalistic field for about five years beginning in high school. Men's A. A. Jim Gede, prominent athlete and worker for the Men's Atheltic As-sociation was elected to the presi-dency of that organization. He defeated Edward Leonard by a count of 92 to 38. Gene Spurrier will serve as vice-president under Jim. Gene took the election from Bob Colburn by a landslide, the results being 105 to 24. 1 Elmer Dize has become the new I Treasurer and John Baumrper will ! be secretary. Charles White was elected the SGA Representative. Women's A. A. Women students of the college se-lected Leona Redemann to head the Women's Athletic Association for the coming year. She took the elec-tion over Arlene Miller with a count of 113 to 99. Susan Pretty took the vice-presi-dency over Ann Weber with a ' landslide of 165 votes to 43. 51 a close race for the posirdon of secretary, Phyllis Whishard edged out her opposition Helen Aldridge by a.count of 104-101. Tower Echoes Bill Hammerman will edit the yearbook of 1952. He scored a victory over Don Hobbs, posting a vote result of 63-25. The students in the junior class were the only people involved in this publication election. Paul Arend will assume the duties of business manager, while Dr. Ar-thur Brewington will act as Tower Echo adviser. Class of '52 Nelson Brooks became the future secretary of the incoming senior class; and in a very close election decided by one vote, Jean Jenkins will take the position off Dorm social chairman. Gordon Blank, previously omitted on the supplement that announced the elections on the primary ballot, will be the treasurer. Class of '53 The vice-presidency was taken by Evart (Bud) Cornell by a difference of 17 votes over Sylvia Godsey. Pat Hoglund becomes secretary; this will be her second term in that office. Wilmer Jones will assume the duties of treasurer, and Melanie Wagner those of dorm social chair-man. Laura Witlam will become the SGA representative after edging out Bill Henneman by eight votes.. Class of '54 Rita Wiant becomes the dorm social chairman on the only office appearing on the final ballot of the freshman class.
