Freshmen, Transfer Students Undergo Summer Orientation Next year's incoming freshmen and transfer students will be introduced to a new program of Pre-registration and orientation, Charles Thomas, registrar, dis-closed recently. Primarily, the changes consist of inserting an entire day during the summer de-voted to library testing, orientation and pre-regis-tration. Also, meetings with faculty and under-graduates Will take place during this time. For freshmen, July 22, 24, 26, 29, and 30 are the designated days. The first weeks of the illonth have been set aside for transfer students. The purpose of the program is to acquaint the freshman with their fellow students and to fos-ter a feeling of membership when they return in September,"" Thomas stated. One of the aspects of the new program, the library achievement test, is a new concept in itself. The test, Alumni Day To Reunite Towson Grads Alumni Day for Towson grad-uates will take place on Satur-tlaY, May 18, on campus. Graduates from all class years eliding in three and eight have ,heduled formal reunions, but It is hoped that all graduates Will return. The program wil consist of �ass reunions from 1:30 to 3:00 a business meeting in the Stteph'ens Hall Auditorium from 3 to 3:30. Those who show a deficiency in these skills, will be required to take a six week, one hour course to supplement their know-ledge. The reasons underlying the li-brary exam are two-fold. First, it aids the students in library usage, and secondly, enables the library staff to know where the students stand in their know-ledge,"" Larson explained. June Week for the Class of 1963 will begin Tuesday, June 4, with President Hawkin's supper for the graduates. It will extend to Sunday, June 9, at which time the seniors will 'receive their diplomas as they culminate their academic endeavors here at Towson. On Tuesday, June 4, at 6 p.m., BJC President Addresses '63' At Investiture The start of senior class com-mencement activities will be marked by Senior Class Investi-ture Convocation on Wednesday, May 22 in Stephens Auditorium at 10 a.m. The college concert band will play as the seniors, clad in caps and grows, will proceed into the auditorium and take their seats in a specifically assigned section of the audience. Dr. Earle T. Hawkins, Presidctnt of the college, will invest Carroll Swam, President of the Class of '63, with the academic cost-ume, thereby symbolically investing the entire class. Dr. Harry Bard, President of Baltimore Junior College, will address the student body. A representative of the Alumni Association will greet the class and welcome class members into the ranks of the Towson alumni. (continued on page 4) Poet Ciardi An 'How Does A by STU BUR.MAN TL Staff Writer John Ciardi, former host of the CBS Television Network Weekly Show ""Accent"" and poe-try editor of the ""Saturday Re-view,"" will speak at the College next Monday at 3 p.m. in the Lida Lee Tall Auditorium. ""How Does A Poem Mean?"" will be the topic of his discus-sion. As a poet, translator, edu-cator, and lecturer. Ciardi has developed a working knowledge of poetry exemplified by his numerous critical articles, edi-torials and his popular column, ""Manner of Speaking"" in the ""Saturday Review."" swers Question Poem Mean?' He has contributed articles to the ""Atlantic Monthly,"" ""Harpers,"" ""Saturday Re-view,"" ""Glamour,"" ""Ladies Home Journal,"" ""Saturday Evening Post,"" the ""New Yorker,"" and literary journals both in this country and abroad. His latest contributions to the literary world are: ""I Met A Man (No. 4, New York Times list of Best Selling Juvenile Books), ""In the Stone Works,"" ""The Man Who Sang The Sillies,"" and ""Dante's Purgatorio."" Women, Army Present Joint Spring Concert On Tuesday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. the Women's Glee Club of Towson will give their annual Spring Concert in the Stephens Hall Auditorium. Under the direction of Mar-tin Rice, music director at the college, the Glee Club will present a variety of songs. The program will include folk songs, modern songs and songs from musicals. "" 'Sit Down Servant', 'If I Loved You,' and a special ar-rangement of 'My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean' are just a few of the songs that will be includ-ed,"" announced sophomore Jean Woodson, president of the Wom-en's Glee Club. The 2nd Male Army Chorus from Fort Meade will also be performing at the concert. Werner M. Paul will be conducting. ""They will sing their own set of numbers and then will give a joint performance with the mem-bers of the Glee Club,"" Miss Woodson continued. ""Admission is free and every-one is welcome,"" she said. ""The concert promises to be very worthwhile and entertain-ing to both faculty and students."" Miss 'Woodson concluded. D-Day custom for women to wear in-formal party dresses for this occasion. The guests should go first to Glen Esk to greet the President and Mrs. Hawkins. At Glen Esk, the guests will be served appetizers and then will go to the Student Center for a buffet supper. Thursday, June 6, at 10 a.m.. seniors will take part in com-mencement practice in Stephens Hall Auditorium.. Attendance is required of all graduates who are enrolled at the College. The Senior Banquet and Prom will be held Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the Turf Valley Country Club. The banquet will be from 7 until 9 p.m_ and will be fol-lowed by the dance, which will continue until 1 a.m. Bob Craig will provide the music for the dance. At the senior banquet and prom. there will be the presentation of gifts to the sponsor, Curtis Martin, a member of the geography department, and to the President of the senior class, Carroll Swam,"" announced Patricia Ryan, vice president of the class. ""Prom favors for everyone will be brandy snifters,"" Miss Ryan continued. The girls of course, will receive dance programs, which will be of green and white, the class colors. 'The prom is definitely formal and the escorts are expected to wear tux,"" Miss Ryan stressed. However, they will not need these Bulletins for registration purposes. since the information contained therein is posted outside the Registrar's Office. and also in S-104. Since Towson's supply of Summer Session Bulletins is running short, and reprinting is virtually impossible, it will be greatly appreciated if students will return their copies to S-104 as soon as they have finished with them.
