Millard Tawes recently released a new state budget which includes a total allocation of $2,983,000 for capital improvement items at Towson. The largest slice of the allocation, $1,500,000, is di-rected toward the construc-tion of a new gymnasium with an additional $280,000 for site improvements and utilities for the gym. A sum of $750,000 is slated for the acquisition of new land to expand the campus and $250,000 will be used to equip the new science building for which ground will be broken this spring. Lionel Hampton Stars At Dance; SweetheartCoupleToBe Crowned The annual SGA sponsored Sweetheart Dance will be held Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Fifth Regiment Armory, nine p.m. to one a.m. Miss Lou Elin Alder, Chairman of the SGA Social Committee, has announced that Lionel Hampton and his orchestra will provide the music for the dance and will give a short jazz perfor-mance in the middle of the evening. Tickets will be on sale in the North Alcove of Stephens Hall Tuesday through Friday, nine Religious Week Starts Feb. 16 The InterFaith Council will sponsor a Religion In Life Week on campus during Feb. 17 to 20. The I.F.C. urges students to attend the various pro-grams which are scheduled at convenient times. Plans Future Talk Dr. Earl T. llam kins m ill address the presidents of campus organizations on Mon-day, Feb. 17 in the President's Room at 7:30 p.m. His topic wil be the future of Towson State College. A coffee hour will be held after the speech. The amount of $85,000 is set aside fcr the renewal of the heating system and plumbing in Stephens Hall and $25,000 will go towards the installation of a service elevator in the building. Another $60,000 is to be spent on improving roads, walks, and parking spaces on campus. The rest of the funds, total-ling $13,000, wil be spent in plans for enlarging the library as well as planning the Student Union building and a Mainten-ance building. Money for a men's dormitory has again been denied. 200 Students Join Ranks For Spring More than 2,000 were enrolled when second se-mester classes began Thursday, Feb. 6. This students represents an in-crease of more than 200 stu-dents over the second semes-ters' enrollment last year. Then, 1785 students were en-rolled for the second semes-ter at Towson. Towson, now a multi-purpose institution offering programs in arts and sciences as well as teacher education, has grown rapidly in the last few years. This fall's enrollment was a record-setting 2102 students, topping the fall 1962 record of 1881 students. Mitchell, has been- hung in the international exhibition sponsored by The Print Club of Philadelphia. Dr. Mitchell. an a.,sociate professor of art at Towson State College is one of only four artists from the South whose work has been selected to appear in the 60- work juried black and white exhibition.
