This is a monthly newsletter sponsored by the T.S.U. Women's Studies Program, beginning with this semester (Spring 1990). It will be published monthly and will contain announcements, by and large, not articles. The purpose is: 1) to communicate to Towson Women's Studies faculty and friendsdnformation on campus and Baltimore/Washington regional events of interest (speakers, conferences, films, plays) ··for · faculty themselves and so that we may pass this information on to students; and 2) to communicate to faculty-US-what we ha1:re done, are do:!.ng, end will do in our own research, in our classrooms, and also through the even·t.s being offered by the Women's Center (these events will continue to be covered by Women's Center flyers as well). We have an especially good Women's Studies program here and a very professionally active faculty and Center. The newsletter will be an opportunity to communicate more of this to each other, as well as to our Women's· Studies students ·. . It will be distributed in a~l upper level courses in the program, as well as to faculty and friends on our mailing list. (This will not replace On Our Minds, which will continue to be. published and which carries articles, rather than announcements, has a large off-campus mailing list and focuses on curriculum issues, for the most part.) (INDS OF MATERIAL TO SEND: information on your own feminist research, professional activities (conference presentations, lectures, participation in meetings), classroom events (speakers, interesting methods, useful texts), new courses, book reviews (if you care to submit any), area speakers or conferences we should know about, films, plays, local or regional .feminist political events or speakers of interest, etc. DIRECTOR'S CORNER The Women's Studies program at Towson, which offers the major and minor degrees as part of a co~ientration in General Studies, is in the process of applying for status as an independent department. A prospectus describing the proposed change is currently being reviewed by various agencies within the University of Maryland system. When achieved, departmental status will be an official sign of the success of the Women's Studies
