Neil Young Those of you who were fortunate enough to take leave of the campus for a few short months of vacation, left with the hope that when you returned, there would be a new College Centre awaiting you. A College Centre, paid for with your money, not the state's. A quiet place to eat without hassling somebody for a chair. A place to study comfortably while listening to the sound of the new radio station, WVTS. A place you could take your friends or when they dropped by, a place to bowl, shoot pool, or just sit and rap...Air conditioned, carpeted, decent chairs and tables a real college centre, instead of the mess we have now. A lot of things have happened in the months you'be been gone....all the student services_ personnel you knew, or probably didn't know, are gone Their replacements have arrived in the ensuing weeks, and from what we've seen and heard, we're quite impressed. Dick Metz, the new Director of Operations has one of the best minds on campus. Here's hoping he doesn't get so wrapped up in the operation that he forgets why he's here.... to serve the students. Steve Murphy, SGA President, has shown himself to be an excellent leader who lays it on the line.... regardless. We welcome the refreshing change from Student govern-ment executives of recent years. Steps have been taken to ease the traffic problems on campus. The security department has recently hired three new officers, all under 28. A radio station for the campus is almost a reality. Dr. James L. Fisher even got a campus parking ticket this summer. In fact, about the only thing that didn't happen is precisely what we all wanted most. As Towerlight went to press, there was little hope that the new Centre would be open when classes started on the 13th in fact, it may not be open until late October. While it is difficult for many of us to forgive the administration for their lack of vision in the matter, we also realize they really had little choice. Hassling the administration or the men on the job isn't going to speed up the process of opening. There are several plans on the table to provide more room to eat, til the new stu opens.... finally. And after all, we've eaten on top of one another for so long now, another few months won't matter. If you think we're getting screwed over, you're right, but eating lunch in Fisher's office isn't going to hurry anything along. If you have something to say, mail it to us.
