The bust was the result of the culmination of several anonymous calls which had been made to the Towson Security Force and the Baltimore Narcotics Bureau complaining about alleged heavy marijuana smoking in room 1210 of the Tower, and the back-firing of a plan devised by William Deal, a resident of 1210, and Gregory Marshall, who lived in 1212, which would enable them to collect insurance monies for some supposedly stolen items. At 9 7. j0 a.m. on August 1, officer Robert _ Baeuerle responded to a breaking and entering call from Deal in room 1210. Several items were reported missing, including a stereo and speaker system which was valued at approximately $1450. Later, Gregory Marshall of room 1212, reported that his room had also been ransacked between 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. during the evening of July 31, and that a television set had been stolen. Baeuerle interviewed both Deal and Marshall, but after uncovering several discrepencies in theft stories, found that he could not believe the stories of either one. After individual questioning, it was later learned that Marshall had been seen leaving the building with a stereo that resembled the one taken from Deal's room. It was also divulged that Marshall had sold the stereo to a cousin for $200. Marshall went on to say that he had hidden his television set in a closet in order to collect the insurance for it, and that Deal was in on the idea. The theft of Deal's stereo equipment, however, had been carried out by Marshall without Deal's knowledge or approval. Marshall, who had waived his rights earlier, was charged with making a false report and released on $1,000 bond. Later, when Security head Gene Dawson, Sgt. Gerald Freeland, and another Security officer went to Deal's room to arrest him for making a false report, they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the room. Dawson then knocked on the door, which was opened by a juvenile who was not a student at Towson. Also in the room was Francisco Xavier, who also was (Continued to Page 4) Photo by Buddy Rehrey Firemen battle Newell's fire alarm fire. Registration efficiency increased, for fall Susan DeBolt More class space will mark the 1973 fall registration as improvements have enabled students to have a greater selection of courses. Assistant Registrar Bill Reuling reports that the -new 17 credit ruling worked remarkably well."" The ruling prohibits students from signing up for more than 17 credits during pre-registration. ""It cuts down on shopping around for courses,"" Reuling added. Registration for new students and day division students who have pre-registered will take place Sept. 4, 5 and 6 in the College Center. There is a new ruling under which student must now pay for drops but this as well as adds or changes is included in the late registration fee of $5.00. The last day to drop classes is Nov. 16. Other changes in scheduling must be made between Monday, Sept. 10 and Thursday, Sept. 13 with Sept. 21 the last day to elect, delete or add the pass-no credit option. Students may not take any courses required for major or teacher education courses under pass-no credit unless they obtain special permission from the department Students are limited to 6 credits of pass-no credit per semester but are eligible for only 12 credits toward their degree. Reuling stressed that the Registrar's Office is always looking for new methods of improving registration. He reported that they are currently working on the actual programming after improving the physical aspects. Less than 4 per cent of students registering for the fall semester were closed out of 3 or more classes with the majority of students losing only one or two courses. Any additional registration can be obtained from the Registrars Office or from the April 6, 1973 special Towerlight insert. "
