This week Towson lost four fumbles, but the defense held strong, shutting out the Crusaders, 14-0. The Tigers held the Crusaders' offense to just 185 yards to earn their first shutout since shutting out Southern Connecticut 48-0 in 1994. ""We all felt that we needed just one score from the offense and we'd be in good shape,"" junior defensive end Andrew Hollingsworth said. ""When they gave us that score, we played like we knew we could."" Towson got that one score with 11:04 remaining in the third quarter on a 15-yard pass from Joe Lee to senior tailback Jason Cone. The senior quarter-back passed for 481 yards a new school and Patriot League record and completed 30 of 54 passes on the way to the win feir the Tigers (4-1 overall, 3-0 in the Patriot League). Lee said this week's win was very important, coming off last week's 28-13 loss to Columbia. ""We put up some yards today, but we still didn't get into the end zone like we would've liked to,"" Lee said. ""The defense played a heck of a game, and as far as winning, that's what we need. Our main goal is to win the conference championship, and that's what we're trying to do right now."" The win was a vindication of sorts for the Tigers, who'd suf-fered some tough luck against the Crusaders the last two years. Towson capitalized on the second, and won 14-0. Lee sets single-game passing records Adam S. Reisinger The Towerlight When senior quarterback Joe Lee fell just four yards short of breaking Towson's single-game passing record in the Tigers' sea-son- opener, he said there would be other days. That day came Saturday. Lee, who threw for 467 yards against Monmouth, set a new school and Patriot League record by throwing for 481 yards in Towson's 14-0 win over Holy Cross. ""To tell you the truth, I didn't even really know until I came out of the game and the coaches told me I got it,"" Lee said. ""It's just something the whole offense is a part of. The offensive line really picked it up. I wasn't on my back at all today."" Lee's 481 yards broke the standard set by Kevin Smith, who threw for 471 yards in a triple-overtime win against Marist in 1996. It also estab-lished a new Patriot League record, breaking the 480-yard mark by Lehigh's Scott Semptimphelter in 1992 against Lafayette. Lee got off to a quick start, throwing for 135 yards in the first quarter, despite not putting the ball in the endzone. By half-time he had 208 yards, the fourth time this season he had at least 200 yards by the half. Lee said the quick start was something he worked on in practice, in part to erase the bad taste of the Tigers' 28-13 loss to Columbia a week earlier. ""I'd been working on it all during the week,"" Lee said.
