The student Homecoming committee, comprised of several campus groups, the Alumni Association and headed by Regina Quinn, has been plan-ning Homecoming 2001 since the spring and has geared the events toward involving as many students, clubs and organ-izations as possible. ""More people are involved this year, doing group things and activities,"" Jessica Westcott, a junior mass communication major, said. ""So they might go [to Homecoming] . instead of going home like [they do] every other weekend."" Festivities begin today with sandwich board displays and other decorations in preparation for Tuesday's Spirit Day. Today will also include the traditional ""Chalk the Walk"" event where students and organizations can create their own ""Walk of the Stars"" on the Beach. Tuesday, everyone is encour-aged to wear Towson colors. There will be a decorating con-test among the residence halls, and VIP's will host Happy Hour, where the winner of the decorating contest and the Homecoming court will be announced. Wednesday will feature ""Wacky Olympics,"" held on Burdick Field from 7 to 10 p.m. Events include relay races, a water balloon toss, wall climb-ing and ice block sitting. Thursday, from 7 to 10 p.m., VIP's will host one of Towson's newest Homecoming events: ""Say What! Karaoke."" All the selections will be songs from movie soundtracks or Broadway plays and individuals will com-pete for cash prizes. Friday's ""Yell Like Hell"" on the Towsontown Field from 3 to 6 p.m. is anticipated to be one of the week's biggest events. Students and organizations are invited to perform a skit, song or dance with original words that include information about the group, the theme and TU spirit. Friday night at the Towson Center CAB presents a concert with Wyclef Jean, featuring Petey Pablo and Nuance at 7:30 p.m. ""I'm really excited to see Wyclef,"" freshman Tyler Merchant said. ""I'm impressed that CAB could bring him here."" Saturday's activities begin early with the ""Tiger Prowl,"" a 5K run / walk, hosted by the American Red Cross of Towson, beginning at 8 a.m. That afternoon, the football team will take on Monmouth University at the Towson Center.
