The process to make that statement officially launched Monday when Caret announced a 12-person search advisory committee. That group will convene for the first time early next week. While Caret will make the final hiring decision, he feels the search committee is necessary to find the best applicant. """"The committee will play a role just like in a search committee in that it will prioritize candidates, perform background checks and give advice,"""" he said. """"It will directly report to me and I will help guide it."""" Caret said Towson will officially start taking applications in about a week and has already started receiving unsolicited applications. He also said experience will be a key component for finding the new athletic director. """"I'd like to look at people who have already [been an athletic director],"""" Caret said. """"We'll have an A-list of people who have done it before and a B-list of people at major schools who are maybe associate athletic directors and look like they would do a great job if given a chance."""" In July, Towson's current athletic director, Wayne Edwards, announced his impending retirement. System asks Towson to accelerate enrollment Brian Stelter Editor in Chief Towson University may substantially increase the pace of its enrollment growth next fall - and would receive additional funds from the state of Maryland to do so, officials said this week. """"We are being told informally to plan to grow by 800 a year starting next year,"""" President Robert Caret said in a speech to chemists on Wednesday evening. The 800-figure is a reference to full-time equivalencies, or FTE. Not all students enroll full-time, so the request for accelerated growth could result in an additional 1,000 students on campus next August. Thursday afternoon, Provost James Brennan will tell faculty members that the University System of Maryland has asked Towson to enroll """"considerably more"""" students in Fall 2006 than it had initially anticipated. """"We're trying to figure out how to do it,"""" Brennan said in an interview. The University will determine whether the request is reasonable and respond to the system in the coming days. The possible increase raises questions about housing, parking and staffing, as the University attempts to help absorb the increasing number of See FUNDS, page 11 Former Tiger buys RateMyProfessors Ex-TU student plans to merge textbook Web site with popular faculty review destination Kristi Funderburk News Editor Life for Towson students is about to become cheaper and easier, at least when it comes to buying books and choosing classes. After a year of planning and six months of contractual negotiations, former TU student Patrick Nagle has purchased the popular faculty review Web site RateMyProfessors.com with the intention of merging the site with his own, the book trading destination SwitchTextbooks.com. """"Rate ranks with about seven million students nationwide,"""" Nagle said. """"Our goal with Switch is to get as many members as possible. We plan on retaining 20 percent of Rate's demographic, which would be 1.4 million college students by spring 2006 on Switch's network.""""
