Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, TigerFest, a free event held on Burdick Field this Saturday, will feature musical acts The Used, The Exies, Finch and sev-eral others as a part of MTV's 2003 Campus Invasion Tour. Puck, a cast member from the Real World Three: San Francisco, will host the MTV portion of the event. According to CAB special event chair Marisa Kaplan, Puck will announce the contests and intro-duce bands in addition to mingling with the students attending the event. ""We're doing a variation of MTV's 'I Bet You Will,"" Kaplan said. ""We're calling it the TigerFest Challenge."" Kaplan said that instead of money, students who compete in the challenge will receive prizes, including CDs and other TigerFest materials. Thirteen bands will take the stage throughout the day, with Hardheadz opening up the main stage in the early afternoon and The Used head-lining later on. Kaplan said CAB attempted to book a range of musicians different from the hip hop and R&B acts that have been featured on the stage in recent years. ""This year we're trying to get a more eclectic range of music. We have the Hardheadz doing hip hop,"" she said. ""We didn't have emo and punk [for a long time]."" MTV will host a Daytime Village that will feature tents with various activities for students to check out, including an opportunity for stu-dents to film themselves as if they were appearing in one of their favorite MTV shows. The Blue Monkey Sideshow, a performing group, will also participate in the event. The group specializes in stunts and other attractions, includ-ing fire breathing and sword swallow-ing. ""They get up and human tricks. They swallow swords they breathe fire. They're very entertaining, they're high ener-gy, they're a lot of fun,"" Kaplan said. In addition to the presence of MTV, the Blue Monkey Sideshow and other inde-pendent groups, Kaplan said stu-dents will also be heavily involved with the program's events. ""They swallow swords ... they breathe fire. They're very entertaining, they're high energy, they're a lot of fun.""
