The group, What happened to the Union pond fish?, poses the questions on every passerbys mind. Okay, so the pond is frozen over Krysten Appelbaum Senior Editor On Tuesday, a fence will be built around the area of phase one of the new West Village housing complex. It will be the first visible sign of con-struction on two residence halls. The construction will eliminate 200 to 250 spaces in two park-ing lots between the Enrollment Services Building and Towson Run Apartments. The closures will go info effect March 12. The changes will force students with Towson Run permits to park in other lots. The construction will permanently close Lot 17 and a portion of Lot 18, and restrict through traffic from the Enrollment Services area to Towson Run. Director of parking and transpor-tation services Pam Mooney said the spaces that are closing will be lost permanently. The parking spaces will be replaced by phase one of the West Village. The two residence halls, to be completed by Fall 2008, will include about 650 beds. Construction is expected to begin by next month. Towson Run permits will not be valid in Lot 17, the one beside Millennium Hall, starting March 6. Brian Stelter Editor in Chief Arriving at the American Cheer and Dance Academys open national championships, Reach the Beach, on Feb. 25, Towsons Pom Squad was understandably nervous. It was the teams first time participating in a competition. It was very stressful, not know-ing what to expect, and hoping we had followed all the rules correctly, co-captain Shaun OBranski said. We knew we were going in as the underdogs. They didnt know who we were, and we didnt know who they were, fellow co-captain Jaime Kaplan added. Like any good underdog story, this one had a happy ending. The squad placed second in their divi-sion and received an invitation to Final Destination, a world cheer and dance championship taking place in Baltimore in May. The squads success was espe-cially notable because it was strug-gling to recruit members just a few years ago.
