As a result, the proposed merger has * temporarily been put on hold. Normally, senate procedure re-quires that any bill introduced before the senate be reviewed by an appropriate committee before it is voted on. Therefore, in order to vote for the proposed bill, which was first introduced Tues-day, the Senate would have had to suspend Senate Rule D-2. .... The suspension of Rule D-2, which allows the entire senate to act as the reviewing commit-tee for a particular bill, requires a unanimous vote by the senate, a vote which was not obtained at the meeting. SGA senators Carl Kendrick and Eric Roper were the two senators who voted against sus-pending the rule. Kendrick ex-plained that this was because he disapproved of the way the bill was created. ""The merger plan was intro-duced a long time ago to the senate and it disappeared. Recently, it resurfaced and it was supposed to be passed. I didn't feel this bill was handled v correctly and there are certain portions of the proposal that I don't agree with. It is my right as a senator to vote against something I don't agree with,"" ' said Kendrick. Michael Aronin, SGA presi-dent, appeared noticeably dis-turbed by the results of the vote. ""I am in disbelief. [The senate] ' s- e, ,( A had no respect for all the work we did,"" he said. , ""Senator Roper and Senator 4*,,,,, Kendrick didn't know what they were doing and they didn't con-sider the students we represent 'Vete when they made their final de- . cision,"" said Kieffer Rittenhouse, SGA vice-president. see MERGER, page 3 444, photo by John Stefancik "
