We hesitated to do so however, fearing that our preference might give one candidate undue advantage, or disad-vantage, as the case may be. At the same time however, we felt, and still feel a sense of responsibility to do all in our power to assure the election of a candidate who will act in the best interests of the College as a whole. Consequently, we questioned the perspective candidates concerning their views, attitudes and motives in an at-tempt to find one candidate who will serve in the best interests of all. The interviews in the center-fold of this issue are the results of our questioning. .we were surprised to find the choice as obvious as it is. In formulating our position on the candidates, we used several criterion. It is our opinion that the president of the SGA should have experience not only in the legislative branch ( the Senate), but in the executive branch (SGA, or Class executive) as well. In addition, the president of the SGA must, if he is to serve effictively, be aware of the mechanics of the College's administration. This awareness and experience can be found in only one can-didate.... Steve Murphy. We also considered the motives of the aspirants in question. What did each hope to gain by his election? Was he looking out for the general welfare of the College or for his own future aspirations? Does he really have the time to fulfill his obligations outside the SGA and still have time to be its president? The presidency of the SGA, is, after all, a job that demands not only imagination, but time and dedication to the work at hand...oualities that have often been sorely lacking in past years. Again we felt that Steve Murphy was the one candidate most qualified for the job. Finally, we carefully examined the plat-forms, suspecting - Mere popular appeal rather than responsible efforts to come up with solutions to the problems that are facing this College. Mr. Taylor has brought forth many ""issues"" in this campaign, but most are issues that have been solved for months, or that could be easily rectified if the administration was allowed to fund worthy projects, yet he has categorically denounced the efforts of the Fisher Administration towards those ends. The case has been made for fiscal autonomy, and the vast majority of the academic community has been foresighted enough to recognize the importance of the College being able to run its own fiscal affairs. Throughout the year, responsible members of the student body on all sides of the political spectrum have called for an end to the provincialism on this campus. The academic community took the first step towards that end last week through their overwhelming support of President Fisher's program for the college. We the students hold the trump card in the form of the SGA elections. We can either elect a president who will subvert the efforts of the rest of the community to streamline the governance structure, (and in doing so he will also jeopardize the institution as a whole,) or we can elect a president who will work in conjunction with the rest of the - academic community to make this College the kind of institution that the Fisher Administration has hoped it could become...it's just that simple. Vote for yourself... Vote for Steve Murphy "
