TL20070326-01 "Sharon Leff News Editor Some students are outraged by the parking changes outside Towson Run Apartments and Millennium Hall since the University fenced off a large portion of the parking lot in preparation for West Village con-struction. Phase one of the housing com-plex, slated for completion by Fall 2008, will have two residence halls consisting of about 650 beds. In preparation, about 250 spac-es were eliminated March 12, and a pedestrian pathway was created over Spring Break to steer stu-dents away from the construction zone. Some residents of Millennium and Towson Run are not happy with the fence and feel they should have been alerted sooner about what was going to happen around their build-ing. Theyre taking advantage of the current students who pay a lot of money to come here, Mitchell Singer, a Millennium resident and sophomore chemistry major, said. When we bought a permit we should have been informed. March 26, 2007 www.thetowerlight.com The Towerlight Published by and for the students of Towson and Baltimore -- twice-weekly Students, female and male alike, learn about the female orgasm News, page 7 Britt Woodfield and the Tigers upset No. 14 Richmond Sunday in double overtime Sports, page 24 Monday Campus construction Now on TheTowerlight.com: Brian Stelter Editor in Chief For years, students and faculty have been hearing about plans for massive construction projects that would change the face of the University. Theyve seen illustrations of the future College of Liberal Arts complex TUs biggest construction project in two decades. And theyve seen maps of the West Village a proposal to double the number of beds on campus. But now, for the first time, theres evidence that the construction is actually happening. The first prominent signs of the construction are confronting students, faculty and staff returning from Spring Break. Between Linthicum Hall and Residence Tower, many trees and bush-es were removed last week, creating a sparse landscape. A new con-struction trailer is now located in a formerly grassy field. Lida Lee Tall is completely fenced off. The parking lot outside Enrollment Services is temporarily shut down. And students in Towson Run Apartments now have to walk around a construction site. Some on campus are experiencing growing pains. At least for me, it happened pretty suddenly, Brian Shea, a sophomore computer information systems major who lives in Towson Run, said. Shea was surprised to see the fence suddenly appear outside his building. The area between Towson Run and Millennium Hall is being prepared for the construction of two new residence halls. Theyre set to open in Fall 2008. Theyre more concerned about providing housing for future students, Shea said. I havent seen any concern for the current student body. A wide swath of land on campus is being affected by construction. The Power Plant was the first area to be fenced off, in December. Then a large part of the parking lot outside Towson Run was closed, just before Spring Break. Then last week, a six-foot-high fence appeared around Lida Lee Tall.
