Stephanie Dylinski/The Towerlight Sharon Leff Associate News Editor A female Towson student living in the Kenilworth at Charles apartment complex was the victim of a third degree sexual assault Monday morning. Police said a suspect entered the womans apartment around 8:15 a.m. and made his way into the bedroom where she was sleep-ing. Though police would not confirm the method of entry, it is believed the suspect entered through a window in the kitchen. On Wednesday evening the victim agreed to be interviewed. The Towerlight promised not to identify her by name, age or major. The victim reported hearing noises before the attack but believed it was just her room-mate, who usually wakes up earlier than she does. I dont know how long he was there or how long he was touching me, the victim said. When I woke up his hands were in my under-wear; it took me a moment to register that. The victim said her first reaction was to scream or kick her attacker, but he said she was able to summon inner strength. I prayed in my heart and my soul, she said, and [I took a] quick moment to acknowledge God. The victim said she concentrated on her family and other positive things. I concentrated on my positive feelings and let him feel that, she said. [I tried to] make him recognize and feel bad that hes doing this. Sharon Leff Associate News Editor After serving their country in the military, veterans do not always pick up where they left off when they return home and enter into college. To help them find the right path, Towson University is hosting a college fair called Operation Service to Scholarship in the University Unions Susquehanna Terrace Friday. Tracy Miller, academic adviser and coordinator of the National Student Exchange, has organized the fair to help provide guidance to veterans. Millers son Nicholas Ziolkowski was killed in Iraq in November 2004. As I would talk to [Nicks] friends about what they wanted to do when they got out, a lot of them wanted to go to college, but it was college in an abstract sense, she said. Miller wants to arm the soldiers with specifics. She isnt aware of any other college fairs for veterans in the country. But she knows there are people with a desire to help. So many agencies want to help the returning vet-erans and what they want to help with is the transi-tion, the readjustment into civilian life, Miller said. Some of the panel discussions will include Different Strokes for Different Folks: Choosing the Right Kind of School, and Veteran Benefits Beyond the VA. See FACE, page 10 See FAIR, page 10 www.thetowerlight.com The Towerlight Thursday, 3/2/06 First hopeful gets axed from campus Associate competition News, page 9 Police search for suspect after attack in local apartment complex; victim describes incident, safety concerns "
