For the fifth consecutive year, the Tigers captured the title with a total of 184.65 points. Temple and George Washington (178.80) finished second and third, res-pectively. The competition was, by no means, easy for the Tigers. Tem-ple had trailed the Tigers by only .2 going into the final rota-tion. Did TSU feel any pressure going into the floor routine, with just two-tenths of a point cush-ion? ""A lot,"" said junior Anne Sugden. ""We looked up in the scoreboard and we were just two-tenths of one point ahead. We thought, 'O.K. guys, we gotta kick butt here.'"" Temple struggled to a 45.25 on bars, which all but assured the Tigers of the championship. However, the Tigers seem to do best when feeling threatened. After two mediocre routines, freshman Janine Spezio gave the Tigers some momentum. ""Janine hit a very good rou-tine,"" said TSU head coach Dick Filbert. Filbert decided at the last minute to go with Spezio on the floor, insteact or senior tri-captain Lori Salindong. Salin-dong had been sitting since the vault, which took place nearly two hours ago. Spezio was on target with a career high 9.45. Sophomore Julie Heilman followed with a solid 9.25, then it was freshman Maureen Greim's turn. ""Lately, Maureen has been doing two events for us (floor and bars),"" said Filbert, ""But today, I took her off bars and she took it (sitting) very well."" Greim showed why she has become one of the best freshman floor workers in the country. She set a TSU Invitational record and personal best 9.65. That puts her as the only Towson gymnast in the TSU Invita-tional record book.
