tl19860213-006 "February 13, 1986 The Towerlight Cellist returns from tour of good will and peace Polish cellist and Towson associate professor of music Cecylia Barczyk, recently back from an eight country tour. By Paul R. Schmidt World-renowned cellist and Associate Professor of Music at Towson Polish-born Cecylia Bar-czyk recently completed a eight-country world tour. The tour includ-ed Japan, South Korea, China, the Philippines, India, Italy, Germany, and England and ran from Novem-ber, 1985 through January, 1986. While on tour Barczyk not only gave concerts, but also recitals and master classes. While abroad Barczyk met with numerous representatives of respec-tive academic, cultural, and busi-ness communities in order to foster international cooperation and ex-change. She was so well received that a delegation of music educa-tors from the Peoples Republic of China is scheduled to visit Towson State in March. The focal point of Barczyk's tour was China. Her concerts in Tiensing and Baijing were nationally televis-ed and enthusiastically received both by audiences and critics. The Chinese government, recognizing both her musical and humanitarian achievements, called her visit one ""of an ambassador of good will and peace."" In reply, Barczyk stated that music is one of the greatest and most effective ways to promote a better understanding between the peoples of the world. Music, we are told, is the most beautiful form of communication between people. Barczyk has taken this to the limit. She has, in a very significant way, bridged a gap of understanding among many peoples, and has made the world itself a more beautiful place.
