T. Kearney hired as search firm for $74K Mike Morris The Towerlight The circumstances surrounding Mark L. Perkins' resignation as University president last April have not discouraged people from apply-ing to fill the post, according to James Clements, chair of Towson's second presidential search commit-tee in as many years. ""One thing isn't going to deter people from coming or applying [for Towson's presidency],"" said Clements, a faculty member, regard-ing Perkins controversial nine-month tenure. ""There's no reason that what happened last year should slow us down."" Approximately 45 applicants have solicited the job of Towson University president, a position left vacant nearly five months ago. However, the applicant pool is expected to double within the next month, Clements said. Upon receiving about 10 propos-als in early July from various search firms, the committee hired A.T. Kearney to assist in identifying Towson's next president. The firm, which has worked with Arizona State University among other insti-tutions, will receive $74,152 for its services. Clements said while the firm will ""get paid nicely,"" he is confidant it will be an asset in achieving the number one goal of the committee to find the best person for the job. Also in July, advertisements for the position were placed in seven publications, including The Chronicle for Higher Education and The New York Times. The 25-member search commit-tee, which met several times during the summer, will meet again this afternoon to discuss the process by which it will rate potential candi-dates. In about a month the com-mittee will begin reviewing applica-tions and selecting the top 10 can-didates.
