TL20070827-01 "Josh Dombroskie Staff Writer For many college freshmen, the last mem-ory of home will involve packing the car and saying goodbye to friends and family. Alex Berrys last memory of home will probably be more unique: rolling down his front sidewalk on the neighbors tricycle, with his friend Ryan pushing from behind. It was fun, but it was difficult, Berry said. People at Towson will be like, hey look its the kid with the tricycle. Berry, who was moving into Tower D in the Glen Complex, was one of the 2,150 freshmen arriving at the dorms on Thursday. Berrys mom, Kathy Swingle, said her son has a crazy personality but can get along with just about anybody, a good trait to have when entering college. Hes usually the center of attention with-out even trying, Swingle said. Berry and his family began the days trek from their Glen Burnie home around 9 a.m., getting into their vehicles and making their way to the bustling atmosphere that is move-in day at Towson University. They arrived at the school around 10:45 a.m. after being directed to the wrong part of campus and therefore getting an unplanned, and self-guided, tour of the ongoing con-struction. I wasnt sure what to expect, Berry said, comment-ing on the hundreds of students trying to move their belongings into the Glen Towers. This is ridiculous. After making his way through the Glen Complex crowd and waiting for 20 to 30 min-utes in the Tower D check-in line, Berry was finally able to get his room key. And then it was time to actually move-in. Berrys mom and step-dad and his friend Ryan all pitched in to start lugging his belongings up the six flights of stairs to room 608, the place where he will be living Aug. 27, 2007 www.thetowerlight.com The Towerlight Published by and for the students of Towson and Baltimore -- twice-weekly Monday Now on TheTowerlight.com: View video of the New Student Convocation and a photo slideshow of move in.... Sharon Leff Editor in Chief Krysten Appelbaum Senior Editor Parking rules change Residents and commuters can no longer park in any free space they find. Lots and garages across campus have been desig-nated for commuters or residents only. Parking and transportation services created these policies in hopes of decreasing congestion during peak parking hours, which are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Union and Glen Garages now have designated areas for faculty and staff, and the remainder is for commuters only. The Towsontown Garage is primarily commuter parking, but will have faculty and staff on the lower level, about 70 spaces for visitors, and until the garage expansion is complete, a portion is for residents. The expansion is scheduled for comple-tion by the end of the year and will produce about 500 spaces, but when Lot 5 behind Linthicum Hall closes, campus will only net gain between 200-250 spaces, according to Pam Mooney, director of park-ing and transportation services. Lot 7 permits will be allowed in Lot 7a and in commuter areas of the garage until the expan-sion opens. Then an area of the expansion will be devoted to students with Lot 7 permits. Commuters who cant find a spot in any of the garages will need to park in the Towson Center.
