Orientation activit Orientation programs keep new arrivals busy with movies, Casino Night, Comedy Showcase; 'Excited and nervous' freshmen find help from leaders, look ahead to start of Fall semester Jenny Lehman The Towerlight First-year students began a new chapter in their academic and social lives this weekend as they filled Towson's residence halls. On Saturday, freshmen could be seen carting personal belongings into dorm rooms, as orientation leaders welcomed and directed the often-con-fused parents and students. From behind a table outside of the University Store in the Union, senior business administration and market-ing major Joe Webb provided direc-tion. ""Basically we are giving orienta-tion information to the parents or students if they need help where to go,"" he said. Outside of the University Union, senior English and secondary educa-tion major Jennifer Cox and junior mass communica-tion major Shereen Corley handed out fliers with informa-tion about orienta-tion and events going on later in the week. As they said goodbye to family and friends from home, most freshmen seemed ready to put move-in behind them. ""I stood in line and my parents got all the stuff and brought it up, so it didn't take that long,"" she said. Lee Elmar, a freshman educa-tion major, said he didn't have any problems moving in and looked to a successful year. ""I expected [moving in] to be a lot worse,"" Elmar said. India Cole, a freshman early educa-tion major, moved into Tower B Saturday. ""The lines were so long to get the carts, so I ended up just carrying things up,"" she said. ""It wasn't that bad because I live on the second floor, and I have a lot of family."" Freshman business major Allie Parrott, from Elkridge, Md., summed up her feelings: ""I'm excited and nervous and I don't want hard class-es,"" she said. Before classes start Wednesday, a variety of programs are lined up to keep new and old students alike entertained. ""We have all the different activities ...everything's free,"" orientation leader Erika Luppert, a junior, said. ""There is something for everyone.""
