Dashboard rocks Fest About 9,500 tickets sold for Saturdays event Brian Stelter Editor in Chief Nearly 10,000 students and fans amassed in the drizzle on Burdick Field Saturday for the spring tradi-tion known as Tigerfest. Sometimes wild, sometimes wet, the six-hour event was capped by a 45-minute performance by Dashboard Confessional. Campus Activities Board director Stefanie Topper was happy with the turnout and the tenor of the event. It was a long day but I think it went really, really well, Topper said. The length of Dashboards performance surprised some stu-dents. It started at 7:15 p.m. and ended 10 songs later at 8 p.m. We were expecting them to play till 8:30, Topper said. From my understanding, students were throw-ing things at the stage, so I guess they walked off a little early. Lead singer Chris Carrabba repeat-edly asked the crowd to calm down and stop fighting. This year, for the first time, attend-ees were required to buy tickets for Tigerfest. Long lines formed outside the University Union Box Office on Friday as students paid $2 and non-students paid $5. Prices rose on Saturday, to $8 for students and $10 for non-students. Associate vice president for campus life Teri Hall said about 9,500 tickets were sold as of Saturday night. Early on Sunday afternoon, Jermon Bushrod became the newest Saint and the first Tiger to get picked since 1994. I just went blank, man. I just couldnt believe it, Bushrod said. There was no lack of suspense for the 6-foot-5-inch offensive tackle on draft weekend. Bushrod had to sweat out day one without hearing his name called and sunk his shoulders when the team he felt confident would grab him Sunday selected another lineman, Allen Barbre out of Missouri Southern State. A couple picks before me, the team that I think was most interested in get-ting me was Green Bay and they had picked a left tackle, Bushrod said. I didnt know what was going to happen from there. I thought I was definitely going to move down a lot. Within 10 minutes, the Saints came calling in. Right when they were on the clock and they were about to select, they called me about two minutes before, Bushrod said. They asked me would I like to wear the black and gold, and I told them Id love to. New Orleans had success a year ago taking players from non-Division I schools.
