Security
tightens
prior to
Tigerfest
New policy limits number
of guests, packages allowed

With Tigerfest approaching on Saturday, stu¬
dents can expect to see increased security mea¬
sures in residence halls, including around the clock
security guards at the doors starting Thursday.
Following last week’s approval of a new Housing
and Residence Life policy, residents can now sign in
only five guests and have three guests sleep over.
Also included in the new policy: "Admission
to University housing facilities, by both residents
and guests, may be conditioned on an inspection
by the University of any packages, bags, pouches,
or other such portable items that can be used to
carry, contain or conceal prohibited items, includ¬
ing alcoholic beverages."
The policy is effective immediately
“There have been some observations that peo¬
ple walk in with containers bags or packages that
obviously look like they have alcohol in them,”
Jerry Dieringer, assistant vice president and direc¬
tor of HRL, said.
Tigerfest is an annual spring event held on
Burdick Field that includes food, inflatables and
a concert. This year the headliner for the event is
Dashboard Confessional.
Under the new policy, resident assistants, secu¬
rity guards, police officers, and community center
workers can now request an inspection.
