Description
Photograph of three people standing on a bridge in the Glen. The man is identified as Bill Hammerman. The railroad trestle behind them is part of the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad. In October 1935 a proposal submitted by Lida Lee Tall and Stella Brown was approved for funding by the Works Progress Administration. At that time Lida Lee Tall was principal of the Normal School and Stella Brown was principal of the Normal School's Model Elementary School. The project to complete the Glen's development from a stream and flood plain into a preserve for wildflowers, trees, and a bird sanctuary was begun in March 1936 and opened to the public in May 1939.
