Allyship Heterosexism Coming Out Stories Gender Binary LGBT Terminology Cisgenderism Transphobia Homophobia THE CENTER FOR STUDENT DIVERSITY'S LGBT STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM PROUDLY INTRODUCES SpeakOUT Towson University's LGBT Speakers Bureau Program SpeakOUT exists to educate the campus about the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and ally communities through panel discussions and presentations in classes, residence halls, and other unversity settings. Members of the Towson University LGBTQIA community who have received training for this purpose enter into these discussions prepared to give accurate information, to answer questions that students/staff/faculty mat have about the realities of LGBTQIA lives, and to introduce the heterosexual and cisgender majority to members of this mostly invisible minority. Through SpeakOUT, we hope to create an atmosphere of respect and acceptance for all individuals within the Towson Community. The panels are offered in the following formats: Coming Out Stories and Q&A A panel consisting of 3-4 LGBT identified students that share their coming out experiences and answer questions about their personal experiences in the LGBTQIA community Deconstructing LGBT Identity and Community A presentation consisting of 1-2 speakers that discusses LGBT terminology and deconstructs homophobia/heterosexism and transphobia/cisgenderism Introduction to Gender Deconstruction and the Transgender Community A presentation that introduces gender variant concepts, deconstructs the gender binary, and provides a basic introduction to transgender identities and communities Presentations by Request Presentations on special topics are prepred upon request by members of the Speakers Bureau: Gay Marriage, Same Sex Domestic Violence, LGBT Hate Crimes, etc For more information about requesting a panel or presentationm or to become a member of SpeakOUT: TU's LGBT Speakers Bureau, contact us at towsonlgbtspeakersbureau@gmail.com or check out our website, www.towson.edu/lgbt
