COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION:
SENATE ACTION:
ENACT UPON APPROVAL.
Jordan A. Colquitt, President - Student Government Association
WHEREAS, Article VI, Section 1, Line 1 of the Towson SGA Constitution states that “Sponsored
Organizations are special interest, student-run organizations, whose purpose, and function operates
independently from the Financial Policy for Student Organizations. The unique function and broad impact
of these organizations on the campus community inherently require line items from the SGA Operational
Budget;”.
WHEREAS, the current Greek Line in the Towson SGA Operating Budget is supported by the Office of
Fraternity & Sorority Life, which is not a student-run organization but rather a department of Student
Affairs at Towson University;
WHEREAS, Article VI, Section 2, Line 1 of the Towson SGA Constitution states that “After inauguration,
the SGA Treasurer will contact the Sponsored Organization’s President and Treasurer regarding gaining
access to request for funding;”.
WHEREAS, there are several student-run Greek organizations at Towson University, including IFC,
NPHC, PHA, MGC, and IGC that have contributed to great open campus programming such as Lip Sync
Battle, MGC International Food Truck Fest, Family Reunion, etc.;
WHEREAS, Article VI, Section 2, Line of the Towson SGA Constitution outlines, “The Student Senate will
approve or deny the allocation of funds in the vote for the fiscal year Operating Budget;”
THEREFORE, the Student Senate of the 102nd Administration of the Student Government Association at
Towson University approves the readjustments of the student government association’s sponsored
organization for the 103rd Administration.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, be it resolved that the Towson SGA amend the Operating Budget to
include separate funding lines for IFC, NPHC, PHA, MGC, and IGC, with budgeting based on membership
and organizational input in these councils rather than the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life.
