RESOLUTION 2022-2023 #31 IN THE STUDENT SENATE OF TOWSON UNIVERSITY, MARCH 28, 2023, A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE PERMANENT FUNDING OF THE PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS CENTER. INTRODUCED ON: INTRODUCED BY: Senator Crosby Jr, Senator Rhynes (on behalf of President Colquitt) COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: SENATE ACTION: ENACT UPON APPROVAL. Jordan A. Colquitt, President - Student Government Association WHEREAS, The Public Communications Center has been servicing students for 5 years after receiving an initial $25,000 grant which allowed the Center to be funded. WHEREAS, The Public Communications Center has had to depend on additional funding from the Department of Communication Studies operating budget and funding from the Dean’s Office and Provost’s Office. WHEREAS, The Public Communication Center’s funds are 100% dedicated to paying the 15 student peer mentors. These mentors served 3,675 students this past academic year. WHEREAS, This year, the Public Communications Center was nearly unable to secure funding to operate until the standing Provost and Dean supplied necessary funds after hearing the student employees were in the process of being let go. WHEREAS, The Public Communications Center needs approximately $60,000 a year in order to operate. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, The Student Government Association urge university administration to establish permanent funding for the Public Communications Center.
