RESOLUTION 2022-2023 #15 IN THE STUDENT SENATE OF TOWSON UNIVERSITY, November 8th, A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE addition of a Military and Veteran Affairs representative. INTRODUCED ON: November 1st INTRODUCED BY: Senator MARCUS ROBINSON COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: SENATE ACTION: ENACT UPON APPROVAL. laN [S',h of Мои. Jordan A. Colquitt, President - Student Government Association WHEREAS, There are over 500 military affiliated students that do not have any form of representation in the Student government association, 185 active students that are in the military 44 Towson Army ROTC , 400 children of military personnel 30 reservist, over 14 members of the national guard as well as an unidentified number of air force ROTC WHEREAS, These students bring over three million dollars to Towson University contributing a big part to Towson’s infrastructure with 16 Army ROTC cadets on scholarship, 20 students using chapter 1606 benefits, 15 veterans using chapter 31 benefits and majority of the dependent of veterans using chapter 35 benefits ( all education benefits for money towards paying Towson University Tuition ) This is not including the undocumented students who are using tuition assistance That pays an annual sum of $4000 ) WHEREAS Not all of the military personnel are using their benefits unaware of the money that they are eligible to receive towards their college career, The knowledge would benefit the veteran as well as bring in more money to Towson university as well as increase towson university statistics. WHEREAS, The military veterans affairs center is tucked away In a corner of the psychology building a very important resource to 185 military affiliated students as well as over 400 military dependents who need this connection to get there education benefits, Some of these students don’t even know that this office exists. WHEREAS, After conducting a survey the military students who participated stated that things that are most important to them are orientation for military students, faculty training on working with military personnel, student military clubs and organizations, volunteering, civic engagement opportunities, mental health services, the military veteran center support, as well as on campus resources.
