RESOLUTION 2022-2023 #14 IN THE STUDENT SENATE OF TOWSON UNIVERSITY, (DATE TO BE VOTED ON), A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE STRONG ENCOURAGEMENT TO ADD HATE BIAS REPORTING TO THE COURSE SYLLABI. Colquitt, President — Student Government Association WHEREAS, according to the Towson University website, “TU values diversity and fosters a climate that is grounded in respect and inclusion, enriches the educational experience of students, supports positive workplace environments, promotes excellence and cultivates the intellectual and personal growth of the entire university community”. WHEREAS, Towson University just welcomed its most diverse student population since its inception, increasing upon its already extremely diverse demographic makeup; it's important students feel included and comfortbale within the campus regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or other personal idenities. WHEREAS, our campus is extremely diverse, therefore facing the unfortunate reality of being more susceptible to instances of hate. WHEREAS, students experiencing or witnessing hate bias need to know how, where, and when to report the incidents to the proper authorities. WHEREAS, recently there have been instances on campus where Hate and Bias Reporting would be required and students expressed concerns with not knowing how to properly report these incidents. WHEREAS, all students have and are required to read their syllabi to know pertinent information for their classes and university policy. WHEREAS, It would be beneficial to students if the Hate Bias Report were incorporated into the syllabi so students know and are aware of the report. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the 102nd Administration of the Towson University Student Government Association strongly encourages the addition of the Hate Bias Report to the course syllabi.
