с RESOLUTION 2020-2021 #32 IN THE STUDENT SENATE OF TOWSON UNIVERSITY, March 8th, 2022, A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE FAIR AND COMMENSURATE WAGES OF CHARTWELLS WORKERS ON TOWSON UNIVERSITY’S CAMPUS. DeVeaux, President - Student Government Association WHEREAS, Chartwells Higher Education (hereinafter referred to Chartwells) is a dining services company contracted to provide services to Towson University. Chartwells’ contract with Towson University has been signed on a five-year basis and will be up for renewal in June of 2023. WHEREAS; Student workers at Towson University are currently compensated at a rate of $1 5.00/hr. Currently, Chartwells workers are paid at the Maryland state minimum wage of $ 12.20/hr. This discrepancy shows an unfair gap in pay between university employees and contracted workers. WHEREAS, If Towson University raises their compensation rates for employees, then the University acknowledges that wages below this amount are insufficient to support a livable wage. WHEREAS, Contracted workers are still part of the Towson University community. Towson University should only promote partnerships with companies who fairly compensate employees with a living wage. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the 101st Administration of the Towson University Student Government Association advocates for the faitand commensurate epmpensatjoo of Chartwells workers on Towson University’s Campus.
