RESOLUTION 2021-2022 #13 IN THE STUDENT SENATE OF TOWSON UNIVERSITY, October 5'\ 2021, A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION AND OTHER TOWSON FUNDED ORGANIZATIONS TO BUY LOCAL FOR EVENTS. DeVeaux, President — Student Government Association WHEREAS, due to the pandemic, local economies have been struggling to get back on their feet. Shopping locally lets consumers invest back into their community (Spana 2021). WHEREAS, shopping local is more convenient, reduces an individual’s / community’s carbon footprint, and makes individuals more conscious of what they buy (Spana 2021). WHEREAS, spending $100, 70% of that stays within the community. While national corporations only 40% stays within the community (Buy Local Baltimore 2020). THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Student Government Association and other Towson funded organizations should consider buying food, items, and other services for events from local businesses before buying from retailers from outside of the Baltimore area.
