EHRLICH, JR. REGARDING TOBACCO CONTRIBUTIONS “Between 1986 and 1996— during my campaigns for the Maryland General Assembly and the U. S. Congress— fewer than one percent of my contributions came from sources with ties to the tobacco industry. “A member of Congress is prohibited by law from taking contributions from corporations— tobacco or otherwise. The only 'corporate’ contributions I accept come from employees voluntarily exercising their right to participate in the political process, either individually or through political action committees (PACs). PACs are people. They represent the views and interests of private citizens— not corporations— and must be viewed accordingly.” c
