EHRLICH, JR. REGARDING MOTOR VOTER LAW HEARING “On July 25 the House Oversight Committee will hold hearings into the federal motor voter law. During that hearing the committee will look at voting problems which occurred in elections across the country. This hearing will not specifically address the 1994 Maryland gubernatorial election. However, I expect some of the problems experienced during this election may be discussed as the committee evaluates the overall effectiveness of the motor voter law. “This hearing is a necessary, serious-minded attempt to expose some of the problems which have resulted from implementing the motor voter law. It may also help to answer lingering questions about the 1994 gubernatorial election. All Marylanders-regardless of their party or position-should welcome this effort. It may ultimately restore a sense of integrity to Maryland’s tarnished electoral process.” -30-
