Ehrlich, Jr. announced today. The boot camp program will target young offenders between the ages of 16 and 25. It will consist of a six-month in-custody period followed by up to one year of aftercare treatment. Grant funds will be used to hire a consultant to investigate and develop all areas of the boot camp program. “The Baltimore/Harford County boot camp will free up much needed space in the counties’ current correctional facilities for more violent offenders,” Congressman Ehrlich stated. “It will provide positive activities and behavioral models which will encourage these young people to be productive citizens. The new boot camp will serve as a vital component of the criminal justice systems of both counties.” A copy of a letter sent by Congressman Ehrlich to Mr. Larry Reachum, Director of the Corrections Program of the U. S. Department of Justice, in support of the counties’ grant request is attached.
