Ehrlich, Jr. for his “tremendous effort” in persuading the Navy to preserve BethShip’s home port status. “Your immediate response and tenacious pursuit of all means available to your office produced the desired result and accomplished our goal,” Mr. Watson recently wrote in a letter sent to the Congressman. “Without the hard work of you and your staff, we would have been shut out of Navy work in the Norfolk Home Port.” Mr. Watson specifically praised Congressman Ehrlich for his role in “grandfathering” BethShip’s status as a Home Port Area. This solution— which was ultimately approved by the Navy— was first suggested by House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who personally intervened in this matter at the request of Congressman Ehrlich.
