By changing the name of the holiday, I do not believe we are being disrespectful to the memory of President Washington and his many contributions to our nation. The name of the holiday was changed mainly because the anniversary of the births of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington are only a week apart. The change merely allows us to pay homage to America’s two greatest Presidents without having two costly federal holidays. Once again, thanks for contacting me.
