I agree with you. You will be pleased to know that I have opposed several attempts to defimd the space station during the 104th Congress. Most recently, during debate on the fiscal year 1996 VA-HUD-Independent Agencies appropriations bill, I opposed an attempt to terminate the space station by reducing NASA’s funding by $1 .6 billion. This effort was rejected by a strong bipartisan vote of 126-299. The U. S. space program has given our nation some of its greatest moments. As you noted, the technological advancements required to achieve manned space flight has led to breakthroughs in other areas. Moreover, the future of NASA, which directly or indirectly employs thousands of Marylanders, is vitally important to the economic well-being of our state. I remain committed to ensuring that the space station receives an appropriate level of funding. Thanks again for writing.
