MO 21222 In response to your letter of July 1 , 1998, my fondest memory of the Baltimore County Public Library relates back to seemingly endless evenings at the old Arbutus branch on Sulfur Spring Road, wherein I would attempt to balance my homework assignments with a newfound interest in the female patrons, aged 14-16. Alas, the homework usually, but not always, won since the required silence in the main room necessitated quite brief conversations with the opposite sex. In short, my local library experience encompassed a relatively short walk to a safe, neat place (and with no television to divert my attention) where I could focus on my academics with so many other students from what was at that time known as Arbutus Junior High School. Today, we hear much discussion about the importance of neighborhood schools, but my best memory is of a neighborhood library which served as an academic and social learning center for generations of kids in southwest Baltimore County.
