Dear^^HHHHH
Thank you for expressing to me your views regarding several important issues pending before Congress.
Like you, I am concerned by alleged improper fundraising activities by the Clinton Administration, the
Democratic National Committee, and the Teamsters. I am especially troubled by recent allegations that
the President may have suborned and committed peijury. These allegations are, in my view, serious and
merit investigation. Two congressional committees, as well as Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr, are
currently investigating the scandals. Should these reports contain clear evidence of “high crimes and
misdemeanors” by President Clinton, Vice President Gore, or other high government officials, I will
actively support all efforts to allow the impeachment process to go forward.
With respect to the importance of vocational schools to the American educational system, 1 share your
views. I understand the importance of offering a skills-based education, in addition to the traditional
college preparatory curriculum, to young people who want to seek employment immediately after high
school. I have visited Eastern Technical High School in Essex on many occasions, and am continually
impressed by the quality of the students there as well as their strong emphasis on instilling students with
the skills they need to survive in the job market of the 1990s. I would like to see the Eastern Tech
experience replicated across the state and country.
With respect to keeping our military strong, 1 completely agree with you. During my tenure in Congress, I
have fought for increased funding in the annual defense budget (despite opposition from President
Clinton). In many ways, the end of the Cold War has made the world a much more dangerous place.
We can no longer live off President Reagan’s Cold War buildup, and must invest in America’s
21я
century force structure. Simply put, we do not want a military force that narrowly wins battles. Rather,
we want a military force so powerful that hostile nations, such as North Korea, Iraq, China, and Iran, will
not dare challenge us. You will find that my voting record to date reflects this view.
Once again, thanks for writing to me regarding these important issues. Please contact me again if I may
be of future assistance.
Very truly yours,
Robert LTEfirlich, Jr.
