C. 20250 Dear Secretary Glickman: Attached is correspondence I received from my constituent Mr. Edward Lauer, president of Lauer’s Super Thrift grocery stores in Pasadena, Maryland. Mr. Lauer contacted me regarding recently promulgated regulations enabling USDA’s Food and Consumer Service (FCS) to share sensitive information submitted to FCS by retailers participating in the federal Food Stamp program with state and federal law enforcement agencies. He is particularly disturbed by the intimidating tone of the notice announcing the new regulations which FCS mailed to grocers. He and other store owners with whom I have been in contact have requesting that FCS sent a second notice alleviating the fears of retailers. I share Mr. Lauer’s basic concerns. Accordingly, I would appreciate your checking into this matter and letting me know if such a notice can in fact be sent. Please respond to my Washington office.
