March 21, 1994 Thank you for your note of March 18, 1994 regarding the appointment of Leslie Hutchinson to the Chesapeake Bay Trust. Quite frankly, the appointment was a surprise to many members of the House, particularly those members who sit on the Environmental Matters Committee. Moreover, your observation concerning the appropriateness of Ms. Hutchinson's selection in light of her recent fiscal problems is well taken. In any event, the Speaker has the authority to appoint whomever he desires to many boards and committees. Accordingly, I am notifying the Speaker's office of your objection.
