WOMEN'S CENTER NEWS: A NEW LOCATION
The Women's Center, which was previously located at the Health Center, has been moved
to the lower level of the Media Center. Our facility consists of a lounge, a conference
room, and a well-stocked library featuring books by and about women. This semester,
many new books have been added to our already large assortment. These books may be
checked out for three weeks at a time, and we welcome anyone to use the library for
research and enjoyment. Our library also contains a wide variety of magazines and
other publications, with recent and older additions available, and an information
file which covers many subjects.
For this fall semester, the Women's Center has planned some interesting events. Among
them is a Career Development Workshop. This workshop consists of three sessions
scheduled for every other Wednesday night, and it began on October 5th. The first
session centered on the question, "Who am I?" and included such things as skill
assessment and values clarification. The second session, on October 19, is entitled,
"Where am I going?", and focuses on individual occupational research. "How am I
going to get there?" is the question which encompasses the last session, scheduled
November 2, and includes topics such as resume writing and interviewing.
Although all of these topics are related, each session is a separate event. This
means that it is not required for people to attend all of the sessions to understand
what is going on, or to get something out of any of the sessions. These workshops
are free for Towson students and $1.00 for non-students. They will be held in the
Newell Hall Conference Room. To register, call the Women's Center or register at
the door.
Another scheduled event is a Women's Billiards Tournament, the first of its kind in
the area, and a large turnout is expected. It will take place on December 3, at
2 p.m. in the Recreation Center, University Union. Cash prizes will be offered.
During Minimester, the Women's Center will sponsor a Women's Theater Games class,
taught by Sally Daniel, a former Arena Stage performer and a long time teacher of
theater. Although the starting date has not yet been determined, it will consist of
six classes, scheduled twice a week for three weeks. The fee for this course is
$15.00.
Next semester, the Women's Center is hoping to have a concert. We appreciate any
suggestions for programs or events, and welcome all volunteers who are willing to help
us out. If you have any questions about us or our events, please feel free to come
by and see us or give us a call at 321-2666. Our fall hours are: Mon., Tues·., Thurs.,:
10-8, Wed. and Fri.: 11-4
