DAY CARE CENTER STRUGGLE GOES ON
The Coalition for Day Care will be meeting over
the Christmas break and Minimester to plan
actions for next semester. We have presented
over 2,000 names on petitions to the Administra-
tion and the SGA showing the concern of students
on campus for the need to continue quality Day
Care at TSC. At present, the SGA has still not
adequately responded to the need for the Center.
Anyone interested in helping the Coalition can
call Kathy Coster at 256-6525.
DEALING WITH SEXISM IN THE CLASSROOM
Unfair laws are easy to deal with when compared
to changing attitudes. One Professor made a
remark to the effect that 20% of the female
population is human. The rest he claimed, are
damn witches or battleaxes.
A student brought this statement to the attention
of the Department Chairman. The person felt they
could not do anything and had no right to tell
the Professor what to say.
The student next went to Affirmative Action
Officer Annette Flower who spoke to a Dean, who
spoke to the Professor.
According to the student, the Professor's attitudes
are still degrading to women. Although
not much can be done, it might be worth the
trouble of reporting a sexist Professor, assuming
many complaints have more power than a single one.
WHAT IS ON OUR MINDS?
This is the second issue that the Women's Center
and the Women's Studies Committee have published
in order to:
A-Consolidate information on Women's activities
on campus
B- Provide a voice (student, faculty and staff)
on issues that affect women
C-Print creative writing by or about women
We urge you to submit to us your poems, parts
of research papers, or themes you have done for
Women's Studies classes, autobiographical writing,
or drawings.
We are waiting to hear from the Towson community.
We hope our campus clerical staff will continue
to take part in this project. It is important
that we all communicate.

CONfERENCE ON THE HISTORY OF WOMEN
Sara Coulter, Elaine Solez, and Jan Wilkotz,
all of the English Department, were among 1800
people who attended the Second Berkshire Conference
on the History of Women, sponsored by
Radcliffe College, October 25-27. Ms. Wilkotz
reports: "It was a good conference; the papers
were impressive in their variety and in the
depth of the research that they showed. Many
were even exciting. We've each written up
notes of the sessions we attended, and anyone
who would like a copy of the program and/or our
notes should contact us. Over 150 papers were
given, and the topics are listed on the program.
Come, see; you'll be amazed."
CONFERENCE: "RE-EDUCATING A GENERATION
OF TEACHERS"
Elaine Hedges and Elaine Solez, both of the
English Department, attended an exciting conference
on "re-educating a Generation of
Teachers," sponsored by The feminist Press and
held November 21-23 at S.U.N.Y., Old Westbury,
N.Y. There were 300 participants from all over
the U.S. and Canada. The participants enjoyed
the opportunity for exchange of ideas and
materials on a variety of subjects, including:
the implications of Title 9, feminist resources
for the classroom, the need for in-service
training for teachers. For further information,
summaries of presentations, contact Elaine Solez,
