October 14, 1953 Student Council meeting minutes

MINUTES OF STUDENT COUNCIL 4:15 P.M. Wed. October 14, 1955 The meeting was called to order by the vice-president Ted Danish. The roll was called and the minutes read and approved. The treasurer's report was given; the balance in the treasury is $ 2209.22 and the petty cash is $ 40.24 The first issue on the agenda was the selection of a permanent NSA representative due to the decision of the Council to remain in NSA. Because if the lack of time to hold a school-wide election because there is no set policy at present for the election of this officer, the Executive Board submitted the following names as suggestions for the office of NSA representative: Mary Ann Sadler, Faye Davis, Jerry Moylan, Sherry Mangold, and Dick Dryden. No other names were added to the list by the Council. To insure continuity of experience gained from attending NSA meetings Mary Jane Mack made a motion that should a serior be electedto one of the two positions - delegate or alternate - the remaining office be filled by a person other than a senior. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously. The candidates were discussed and the election held. Faye Davis and Jerry Moylan were elected delegate and alternate representative. Next, the problem of Homecoming favors was discussed. The senior class wanted permission from the Student Council to sell large mugs at $1.00 each at the Homecoming Dance which they are sponsoring, the reason being that these favors were costing more than had been expected. However, since money especially for favors had been allocated in the senior class budget it was thought unfair to charge students again for favors unless the money was deducted from next semester's allocation for the senior class. It was also stated that students would not be compelled to buy the favors unless they wished to and the senior class would assume the deficit should it occur. Finally, after much discussion, Mary Ann Sadler made a motion that the Council withhold further discussion until after the Senior class meets again to discuss the issue and brings their decision back to the Council. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously. George Hohl announced a meeting of all treasurers to be held on Monday October 19 at 4 P.M. in the SGA office, at which time the checks for the allocation along with treasurers' supplies will be distributed. Jim Addy read the letter of resignation from John Carre, a member-at-large. Bill Miller made a motion that the Council accept John Carre's resignation. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously. Nominations for Homecoming queen were Irene Paul, Phyllis Lacy, Pat Karl, Mary Jane Mack, and Mona Lou Evens. Irene Paul was elected as Student Council's candidate for Homecoming Queen. It was suggested to the Council for future discussion that the SGA could have an electric mimeographing machine if willing to spend $ 75.00 for repairs.
