October 11, 1983 SGA Senate meeting minutes

MINUTES Oct. 11, 1983 Meeting was called to order at 4:05. Sen. Campbell moved to excuse Sen. K. Campbell-sec. He was excused. Sen. O'Shea moved to accept minutes-sec. Minutes were accepted. President Barnhart read a "thank you" letter from Sally Souris, Vice President of Intrisutional Advancement, regarding Thursday night's dance (Sept. 29) for the Joe McMullen Scholarship. Treasurer ray discussed financial report on Homecoming Dance. 1,169 tickets were sold. $135.00 was made on balloon sales. Director of Communications needs help putting up flyers for Friday night movies. Oct. 17 is the deadline for organizations to have in their events for the Events Calendar. A letter will go out to parents, regarding Survival Kits, in two weeks. Vice President Clark wants Senators to have a report on their organizations in two weeks. No Constitutions introduced. Senate Bill 1983 - 84 #10 was introduced. To delete the following speakers from Speaker Series Bill 1983 - 84 #3: Theo Brown, James Randi, Millicent Fenwick, William McBurney. Committee Reports: Appropriations: Sen. Shabow reported a favorable recommendation from the committee for Bill #5: To appropriate $120.00 to the Philosophical Discussion Group in the form of a supplementary budget. Sen. Shabow moved to accept committee recommendation-sec. Sen. Shabow moved to amend Bill #5 deleting $48.00 from the Advertising Account leaving a balance of $11.00-sec. Vote to reinstate bill was 13-1-0. Motion passes. Sen. Shabow moved to previous question-sec. Vote to pass Bill #5 as amended was 12-2-0. Motion passes. Government Operations: Arts Guild Constitution has been changed in Article III - Executive Branch - from 11 members to 4 members. Sen. Dubbert moved to accept committee report-sec. Sen. Dubbert moved to previous question-sec. Motion carries. Vote was unanimous. Vote to accept committee report was 12-1-0. Motion carries. Sen. Dubbers reported a favorable recommendation from the committee for Bill #6 stating that a Senate committee meeting can not be held on the same day as a regular Senate meeting. Sen. Dubbert moved to accept committee recommendation-sec. Sen. O'Shea moved to previous question-sec. Vote was unanimous. Vote to pass Bill #6 was 13-1-0. Motion carries. University Affairs: Several projects were discussed such as night walk, to correct trouble sport on campus, Race Relations Forum and Ethnic Week in February and Certificates of Appreciation. Announcements: president Barnhart urges all Senators to make sure their organizations are aware of the advertising policy. Sen. Shabow thanks Treasurer Ray for a great job on Homecoming. Sen. DiPaula moved to adjourn-sec. Adjourned at 4:30.
