- Description
- Memorandum from Walter T. Schonfeld to Brigadier General Telford Taylor expressing concerns about becoming a displaced person after the expiration of his contract. Schonfeld was recruited in London by the U.S. Civilian Recruitment Office. Originally from Czechoslovakia he had become a citizen of the United Kingdom who still held a Czech passport. At the time of this memorandum the British Consulate in Frankfurt was not issuing visas to those who held Czech passports without referring every application to the Home Office. Since his contract with the Office, Chief of Counsel for War Crimes would soon expire Schonfeld risked becoming a displaced citizen if his visa application were not expedited so he is asking Taylor to help facilitate that process.
