TO: Phil Rosa, Personnel 7/24/90 FROM: Sara Coulter, English and Women's Studies SUBJECT: Contractual Secretary for Beth Vanfossen, Director, Center for the Study of Women and Education I have been informed by Dean Chappell that $l0,000 haa been budgeted for a contractual, half-time secretary for the Center for the Study of Women and Education. I have sent a memo to Bob Caret asking that he or the President's office confirm this with Personnel. The Job is an exception to the Job freeze. The position will require excellent secretarial skills, excellent people skills, and greater than average computer expertise or ability to learn same. The Center will be working with faculty, with community, corporate, and government representatives, and with students. The secretary will need to be able to interact with all of these groups effectively. In addition to standard word processing, the secretary will need data base and desk top publishing skills. Inasmuch as the Center and the secretary will be confronting an array of activities and priorities, the secretary will need to be flexible, efficient, able to work under pressure, and able to assume responsibility for working independently. This is a great deal to ask for one half-time position, but the work will be interesting and important.
